A few weeks ago, I was unloading the dishwasher and realized that all of the dishes (including the girls sippy cups) smelled like the detergent I was using. Warning sirens began to sound.
This could not be good!!!
I began to do research on how to make my own dishwasher detergent. The recipes varied, some called for Borax, some had you cooking ingredients down and then letting them sit on the counter for a bit to create some sort of goop, others had Kool Aid (yes, that Kool Aid we drank at ever kid party we went to in the 90’s).
Simplicity works best for me and my busy schedule so I kept looking. Then I came across a few recipes that called for using a tiny amount of dish soap and baking soda. Intrigued, I decided to try it out, well it was a game changer!
My dishes were clean, and my dishwasher looked cleaner too! I know it sounds weird, but it is true! I will never use regular detergent again!!!
For a family size load in the dishwasher you will need 1-2 drops of blue Dawn dish soap (I haven’t tried others because this worked so well) and 2 Tbsp. of baking soda.
Just a quick note: DO NOT USE MORE THAN 2 LITTLE DROPS OF DAWN or your house will be consumed by bubbles… I read this online and did not find out from personal experience… seriously… I know it sounds like something I would do, but I swear I didn’t.
